All students participate in a comprehensive health and physical education program that integrates wellness with all aspects of the health and physical education. The program focuses on the development of healthy behaviors and attitudes both in school and in family relationships. The Family Life Program which is one aspect of the curriculum incorporates education targeted at safe and healthy behaviors that support both social and emotional as well as physical well being.

The goal of the program is to develop and promote health literacy in all students. The District defines health literacy as outlined by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills as outlined below:
  • Obtaining, interpreting, and understanding basic health information and services and using such information and services in ways that are health enhancing.
  • Understanding preventive physical and mental health measures, including proper diet, nutrition, exercise, risk avoidance, and stress reduction.
  • Using available information to make appropriate health-related decisions.
  • Establishing and monitoring personal and family health goals.
