Resources/Materials
The Franklin Lakes School District provides libraries that function as the center of their school buildings.  Each library houses and accrues resources and materials that directly support content curriculum while also providing extensive collections for students' independent reading interests.

Our extensive collections include:
  • Chapter-books and picture-books that support all reading levels
  • Resources that support all learning styles – including but not limited to print materials, visual media, auditory resources, interactive software, learning games, and on-line resources
  • Materials for independent student selection in a wide variety of interests and reading levels
  • Updated and current computer technology to support all curriculum areas and student interests

Atmosphere & Environment
Our open media centers provide:
  • A comprehensive curriculum that addresses a dynamic balance between literature appreciation and information literacy skills
  • Opportunities for free reading and independent student/teacher research
  • A welcoming, inspiring, and creative environment that enhances voluntary reading, teaches integrity, respects diversity and encourages group and school-community involvement

Library Staff
Each library specialist provides a supportive relationship with both teachers and students in the effort to encourage a “come to us first” culture where teachers and students seek out the library as a primary resource for research and information.

The library media center encourages literature appreciation, expands information literacy skills, and provides lessons that support the classroom curriculum through:
  • Library lessons
  • Open communication and collaboration with teachers
  • Efficient  use of public and/or other outside libraries
  • Enhancement and expansion of independent, voluntary reading
  • Outreach to parents and community
  • Modeling access to information and reading-for-pleasure in a wide variety ways
