Advanced Study/ Course Review Approval Guidance 
Those interested in pursuing advanced academic studies should confirm the following before submitting course of study/ individual course approval paperwork:
  • 1. Confirm the institution providing official academic credit is accredited as per one of the following accreditors:
    • Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation [CAEP].  CAEP is a professional accreditor that reviews departments, schools, and colleges that prepare teachers and other educators.  Search providers at: https://caepnet.org/provider-search
    • Council for High Education Accreditation [CHEA].  CHEA's database lists more than 8,200 degree-granting and non-degree granting institutions and more than 44,000 programs that are accredited by U.S. accrediting organizations that are recognized by CHEA or by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or both.  Search institutions at: https://www.chea.org/search-institutions
    • The US Database of Postsecondary Institutions and Programs site also provides accreditation information: https://ope.ed.gov/dapip/#/home
 
**Beware of "providers" that may fit the definition of a "diploma mill."  **
 
  • 2. Ensure the coursework is relevant to the individuals continuing role/ employment in Franklin Lakes Public Schools (i.e., related to work in schools).
  • 3. If the applicant is pursuing a full course of study related to a salary classification (i.e., Masters, Masters +30):
    1. complete the Advanced Study: Course of Study Request as a cover sheet (Attachment B). 
    2. Then, complete one individual "course review" form per course to be approved. 
INDIVIDUAL COURSE REVIEW (Attachment C) forms MUST include:
        1. The course description from the official course catalogue.
        2. Brief description of the relevance of this coursework in your continuing role/ employment in FLPS.
