Some students require additional supports in order to achieve in the Math and Language Arts content areas. The Franklin Lakes Public Schools has comprehensive programs at both the elementary and middle school level to support students through methods best suited to meet their individual needs.   Students in the CSI and S&I programs are monitored on a regular basis and exit services as soon as teachers determine that they have achieved grade-level expectations.  Instructional materials are tailored to meet the needs of diverse learners and are provided by both local and federal Title IA funding.

Franklin Lakes Collaborative Support and Intervention Program

Vision

The Collaborative Support and Intervention Program (CSI) intends to further the vision of Franklin Lakes Public Schools by providing academic support designed to meet the unique needs of striving learners. We recognize that learners grow at varying rates and plan for instruction that supports these learners in making growth towards meeting grade level standards and local benchmarks. Towards that end, the success of the program relies on ongoing, tiered instruction in the general education classroom, where classroom teachers deliver instruction that varies depending on the nature of student needs.

Mission

The Collaborative Support and Intervention Program (CSI) aims to:

  • Promote student growth towards meeting grade level standards and local benchmarks by providing evidence-based intervention strategies and academic support through small group instruction, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Provide small setting intensive interventions that target students’ skill deficits for the remediation of existing problems and the prevention of more severe problems.
  • Support classroom teachers by fostering communication between the classroom teacher and the CSI teacher that focuses on using data to achieve instructional goals by creating a protocol for sharing data, communicating on a consistent basis, and collaborative planning for next steps.

Identification for Services

Screenings to identify students occur throughout the school year based on assessment results, classroom performance data, and teacher/ parent input.  Students are exited from services after they have achieved all necessary performance benchmarks and are monitored in the general education setting should academic support services need to be reinstated.
