The Franklin Lakes Public Schools welcome students and staff back to a brand new school year. Faculty and staff returned on September 1st, and attended the annual Convocation on September 6th. Staff received special greetings from Franklin Lakes Mayor, Frank Bivona, Board of Education president, Jackie Veliky, Sharon Milano, FLEA president, FLEF co-president, John Colaizzi and Yemi Benedict-Vatel, and Taso Katopodis, representing all of the school PTAs. Members of the Franklin Lakes Police Department attended as well.
After Dr. Furnari addressed the staff, Stephen Fogarty, of Fogarty & Hara provided an update on issues related to school law, and Charlie Wolff presented on School Safety and Security. The Convocation activities concluded with a presentation by Sharon McCarthy of Envision Inc. who worked with staff on strategies related to stress relief and mindfulness. Teachers then returned to their schools to prepare for the start of the school year.
On September 7th, there was an air of excitement as our students returned to school. Children reconnected with classmates, met their new teachers, and learned about what the new school year has in store. We are looking forward to working together to make 2016-2017 a productive and enjoyable school year!
