SUBTESTS

Rapid Naming – This test measures how quickly students can name a series of pictures on a card.

Bead Threading – This test assesses hand-eye coordination with how many beads a student can thread on a string in a given amount of time.

Phonological Discrimination – This test determines if students are able to tell whether or not two similar sounding words differ by one phoneme (sound).

Postural Stability – This is a test of motor skills, balance and control of eye movements, which are commonly problems for children with dyslexia.

Rhyme / First Letter – This test determines if students are able to identify when two words rhyme and what the beginning sound of a given word is.

Digit Span – This measures the maximum number of digits a child can remember in the right order.

Digit Naming – This demonstrates a child’s knowledge of number names when the numbers are in a random order.

Letter Naming – This test measures a child’s ability to name the sound for a given letter.

Sound Order – This test measures a child’s ability to discern the order of two tones. Children with dyslexia may have difficulties in deciding the order of two tones when they are presented close together.  This may affect the ability to detect rapid consonant changes, and make it hard to hear sounds in words. To simplify the task, a squeak (mouse) and quack (duck) are used.

Shape Copying – This test measures the accuracy of copying shapes in order.

Corsi Frog –This test investigates spatial memory, which may be impaired in children with dyslexia or other special educational needs.

Vocabulary – This test is designed to measure receptive vocabulary in a multiple-choice format.

*Decile – This shows how performance compares with other children in the same age band.  There are 10 bands, with band 1 corresponding to the lowest 10%; band 5 corresponding 41-50%, etc.
