Visual & Media Arts

The study of art is an essential element of any well rounded education. The development of understanding and appreciation for art and artistic expression develops our children's inner resources and provides rich opportunities for emotional, intellectual, and creative growth. Art is important for every child, and is designed to help students develop a positive self-image, develop a sense of pride and accomplishment in their work, increase perceptual awareness, enhance their aesthetic appreciation and judgment, and foster ability to think and act creatively.

Our NJSLS 2020 Visual and Performing Arts programming provides students with authentic, hand-ons experiences across the five artistic disciplines while developing a deep appreciation for the arts in recognition of the impact the Arts has on culture and students’ everyday lives.

Our pedagogy is centered upon the development of creative and critical thinking, social-emotional competencies, and intellectual and expressive abilities that will allow students to become active, contributing members of a global society. Arts education at FLPS is steeped in the development of artistic literacy and fluency through the artistic practices:

  • Creating
  • Performing
  • Responding
  • Connecting
