School-Based Counseling

All students, regardless of classification, should receive the mental health support they need to access their education.

Tier I support is provided in classrooms by your child's highly trained teachers.  We focus on feelings, communication, citizenship, and creating a classroom community where everyone is welcomed.

Tier II support is provided by a school counselor, school psychologist, and/or school social worker to help students navigate typical challenges that youth may encounter.  The frequency of these services could range from a monthly check-in session to weekly sessions.  If you feel your child requires Tier II support, please reach out directly to your child's school counselor.

Tier III support is is provided by professionals with the same qualifications as Tier II but services are delivered at a higher frequency and duration of sessions to support more significant needs.

Anyone, staff and family members, can complete a REQUEST FORM to voluntarily request that their child/student be considered to receive Tier III services (This is checked every two weeks; please call if you have an urgent matter).

After receiving the request and parental consent, the family, teacher(s), and student will receive the Behavior Assessment System for Children - Third Edition to complete.  Scores are reviewed, and a decision is made regarding the need for Tier III support provided in approximately 8-week modules with progress reporting using the Beck Youth Inventories - Second Edition.  All scores from the BASC-3 and BYI-2 are shared with families, and families can withdraw their request for services at any time.
