Parent Academy
 
The District was pleased to launch The FLPS Parent Academy initiative in 2015/16 to further strengthen the Home and School relationship.   This complimentary program calls on experts both within and outside of the District to explore topics of interest to our community.  
 
 
Parent Academy programs planned for the 2017/18 school year include:
 
1.  Superintendent’s Fall Forum: Balancing Technology in the Lives of Our Children featuring the film SCREENAGERS

When – December 5, 2017, 7:00pm

Where – Franklin Avenue Middle School

Who - Parents, Community Stakeholders, Staff, and Students Ages 10 and Above

What - Join us in viewing the film Screenagers, Growing Up in The Digital Age, followed by a panel discussion on the film, and the sharing of ideas, resources and strategies to address this phenomenon.

 

2. Working Together to Support Students and Schools in the Face of Increasing Adversity and Societal Pressures; Speaker, Frank De Angelis

When – Tuesday, January 16, 2018, 6:30pm

Where – Indian Hills High School Auditorium

Who - Parents and Community Stakeholders

What - We will hear from Frank De Angelis, former principal of Columbine High School. His honest, straight-forward approach provides invaluable insights into how our community can work together to support our students and our schools as we face increasing adversity and societal pressures.

 

3.  Mindfulness and Well-Being; Speaker, Sharon McCarthy

When - February 15, 2018, 6:30pm

Where – Franklin Avenue Middle School

Who – Parents and Students Age 8 and Above

What - Sharon McCarthy returns to one again, this time to share insights about mindfulness and well-being.  This interactive event gives parents and children the chance to collaborate on mindful practices.

  

4.   School Safety & Security

When – Thursday, April 5, 2018, 7:30pm

Where – Colonial Road School

Who – Parents & Community Stakeholders

What - Hear about the safeguards, drills, and procedures that our District employs.  Session led by Mr. Charlie Wolff (FLOW District Security Coordinator) and Officer Frank O'Brien (Franklin Lakes Police Department).

 

4.  On Our Way to Reaching Our Goals - Superintendent's Spring Forum - Update on Strategic Plan

When - May 31, 2018

Where –  Franklin Avenue Middle School

Who – Parents and Community Stakeholders

What - Come hear from Dr. Furnari on where we are with the implementation of the Plan and she will answer community questions.

 
We are excited about this success of this endeavor and look forward to continuing the program of lifelong learning.  Announcements about new programs will be listed under the PARENTS tab on the website, eblasted to all FLPS parents/guardians and staff, and included in School News & Views.
