2025–26 Board of Education Goals

As we celebrate the USA's 250th Anniversary, we embrace our nation’s proud history, commit to excellence in today’s classrooms, and look ahead with inventiveness — including responsible use of AI — to prepare students and staff for the future.


Goal 1: Academic Excellence and Innovation

  • Support robust and challenging core curriculum for all learners.

  • Encourage innovation including in-house curriculum development and responsible integration of AI to assist teachers and enhance learning.

  • Foster a quicker internal feedback loop across schools to share best practices and achieve the best outcomes.

Goal 2: Staff Development and Retention

  • Maintain a supportive, dynamic work environment that attracts, develops, and retains talent.

  • Provide professional learning opportunities, including training in emerging tools such as AI, to empower staff with creativity and innovation in instruction.

Goal 3: Operational Responsibility and Community Trust

  • Manage resources responsibly, including referendum surplus, balancing immediate district needs with long-term financial stability.

  • Pursue operational efficiencies that support the district’s mission.

  • Enhance communication and collaboration among parents, staff, and the community through transparency, proactive engagement, and responsiveness.

Goal 3: Identify opportunities to enhance communication and collaboration among parents, teachers and the community throughout the school year, applying learnings to drive continuous improvement. 
 
Referendum Funds:
Goal 4: Appropriate referendum surplus responsibly considering future project and current district finance position.
 

2022-2023 Board of Education Goals


  1. By June 2023, the Board will negotiate successor collective bargaining agreements with the Franklin Lakes Administrators Association.
  2. Strategic Plan 2022-2027: The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will support efforts to conduct a strategic planning process for the purpose of defining the decisions and actions that shape and guide the future direction for the school district over the next several years.
    1. Hiring of a Consultant

  3. The Board will work to explore more opportunities to ensure a more effective and functioning board.

    3. Governance: improve the Board’s collaboration in order to facilitate timely and efficient decision making.
    4. By May 2023 determine whether to add a public question to the November ballot to decrease the size of the Board.
    5. Beginning January 2023, introduce updated agendas with clear protocols for both public meetings and executive sessions.
  4. The Board will support funding and policy towards innovation and the exploration of alternative ways of funding for the district.
