The New Jersey Student Learning Standards for English Language Arts were adopted by NJ in May 2016.

A Child Becomes A Reader is a pamphlet from the National Institute for Literacy that provides parents with a summary of  research on how students learn to read and write and gives guidance on what to do at home to support the development of reading skills in grades K-3.




Helping Your Child Learn to Read in Kindergarten and First Grade are two National Institute for Literacy pamphlets focused specifically on the development of reading skills at these critical years and how parents can support their children's learning.


International Reading Association provides parents with links to children's book lists, writing activities for young readers, and more.


ReadWriteThink provides a website with resources for teachers and parents that will help to engage K-12 students in after school activities that promote literacy skills.

Internet4Classes is a site that supports the development of Middle School Language Arts lessons by providing numerous links to lesson ideas and structures.

Just Read Now provides a website with links to various strategies for vocabulary instruction

Raising Readers, a program of the Literacy Clinic at Northern Illinois University, has posted numerous, brief YouTube videos to illustrate ways in which parents can support their children's literacy education.

 

Project Gutenberg is a website that provides a searchable library of free ebooks.
